VACUUM EXCAVATION

DON’T DIG BLIND.  CALL JIM’S DIGGERS ON 131 546

TO ESTABLISH EXACT LOCATION OF UNDERGROUND UTILITY ASSETS BEFORE YOU DIG.

Non-destructive digging (NDD) also referred to as Hydro Vacuum Excavation, uses high-pressure water to remove material such as soil, dirt, and sand to expose the desired underground utility and cultural listed tree roots. A high-flow vacuum system extracts the dislodged material which allows for easy waste removal and creates a clean work site. The material is then taken off-site to a proper disposal facility.

Jim’s Diggers regularly perform NDD or Vacuum Excavation around critical infrastructure such as sewer lines, power cables, gas lines, telecommunication cables, cultural listed tree roots and more.

Allowing for a safe way to dig holes and dig trenches, this method is widely used and our expert team at Jim’s Diggers are highly skilled in this practice.

Advantages of Non-destructive Digging (NDD)

This method of digging has the least environmental impact compared to traditional techniques. In fact, NDD is one of the most environmentally friendly ways for excavation due to its non-destructive nature. It also reduces the risk of damaging underground utility assets and cultural listed tree roots.

Hydro excavation requires less restoration and labourers as it is non-mechanical and therefore is more cost-effective and accurate.

It is now becoming the desired method in many industries due to its safety and precision. This technique is twice as fast compared to traditional mechanical excavators.

NDD applications

Hydro Vacuum Excavation can be used to pothole and assist in detecting underground utilities such as pipes and cables. This technique minimises the damage and disruption and is widely recognised as the safest method of excavation. Telecommunications, utility providers and construction companies use NDD for this benefit. This method is widely recommended for below services:

  • Excavating around underground utilities
  • Potholing or day-lighting
  • Excavation of trenches
  • Post Holes
  • Power pole straightening
  • Cleaning out pits and manholes
  • Planting
  • Removing and remediating trees
